APPLICATIONS

Who should apply for the Course? 
The Yale Publishing Course is designed for senior to mid-level publishing professionals who wish to advance in their careers and to take on broader responsibilities. Participants in the Course must be fluent in English and must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in publishing or in a related industry. See requirements.

What are the application deadlines?
The application deadline for both Books and Magazines is July 1, 2016. We will inform applicants of their acceptance within two weeks of receiving their completed application. Once each program reaches capacity, we will not accept additional participants, but will add names to a wait list.

How many people do you accept into each program?
We accept approximately 70 participants in each program in order to create a close-knit environment and foster relationships between participants and speakers. We strongly suggest you apply as soon as possible to secure a place.

When do the 2016 Yale Publishing Course programs officially begin and end?
Both programs begin on a Sunday (informal dinner) and end on a Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Magazine Media program takes place July 24-29, 2016 and the Book Publishing program takes place July 31-August 5, 2016.

Does the Yale Publishing Course issue Continuing Education Units for attending?
Continuing Education Units are not issued for this Course. Participants will, however, receive a certificate of completion.

TUITION & DISCOUNTS

What does the tuition fee cover?
The course fee of $5,450 covers tuition, course materials, all lunches, refreshments, special receptions, three dinners, and shuttle transportation to and from classes/hotel during the course. Housing is not included in the course fee; however, a special hotel rate (which includes breakfast) at the Omni New Haven Hotel will be provided for participants. More payment information.

Am I eligible for a discount?

A 10% discount off the course fee is provided when:

  • two or more people from the same company apply and attend
  • you are attending both the book and magazine media courses in the same year
  • you are recommended by a YPC faculty member
  • you work for a non-profit organization

A 20% discount is offered if you have previously attended YPC or are a Yale University alum.

Special rates are also offered through the Friends of YPC.

No discounts are available on the application fee. Discounts may not be combined.

TRAVEL & LODGING

I need a VISA letter. How can I get one?
If you are an international participant and need to apply for a VISA, please contact Daniela Czerwinski at daniela.czerwinski@yale.edu to receive an official Yale Publishing Course invitation letter for your VISA application.

What is the best way to get to and from New Haven, CT?
If traveling by plane, Bradley International Airport (BDL) is approximately 45 minutes from New Haven and is served by nine major carriers to 29 non-stop destinations and connections. The city of New Haven is also accessible from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Tweed New Haven (HVN) is the airport nearest to New Haven, but offers limited service.

In all cases, travel by car or train from the airport to New Haven is necessary. For detailed information on air and train travel, please visit the “Visit New Haven” web site.

It is recommended that you arrange transportation from the airport through Hy’s Limousine or GO Shuttle. It is not recommended that you take a taxi to New Haven from the airport, as it would be very expensive.

If traveling by train via Amtrak or Metro-North, select New Haven Union Station as your final destination. Taxis are readily available at the train station. The ride from Union Station to the Omni Hotel is about 10 minutes and costs approximately $13 USD.

I'm driving. Where do I park?
The Greenberg Conference Center at 391 Prospect Street in New Haven has a large parking lot that does not require a parking permit and is free of charge. The Omni Hotel has a garage where you may park your car for a daily fee. Please contact the Omni Hotel for further information at 203-772-6664.

Will transportation be provided during the Course?
Transportation by bus will be provided for Course-related events only. Participants will be picked up from the hotel each morning and dropped off each evening. If you choose to walk from the Omni New Haven Hotel to the Greenberg Conference Center, it takes approximately 25-30 minutes.

Where can I make a hotel reservation?
We will arrange a special rate at the Omni New Haven Hotel for YPC participants. This rate includes breakfast, but does not include parking. Upon being accepted to the Course, you will be provided with a link to make a reservation online at this special rate. This rate can be applied to extra days when booking online should you need to arrive earlier than the start date or depart later than the end date of the program.

COURSE LOGISTICS

Where is the Course taking place?
The Course will take place at the Greenberg Conference Center (391 Prospect Street), which is on the Yale University campus in New Haven, Connecticut.

Will there be free Wi-Fi throughout the entire conference center?
Yes, all participants will have free access to Wi-Fi inside the conference center. No password is required.

Am I allowed to record sessions or presentations during the Course?
No. Recording during sessions is not permitted.

Will presentations be available for viewing after the Course?
After the Course, we will make available to participants only those PowerPoint presentations that have been approved for sharing by the speakers. Specific instructions regarding access to presentations will be provided during the program.
