Mary Berner - President & CEO, MPA Mary Berner was named President and CEO of MPA, The Association of Magazine Media, in September 2012. She has led some of the largest and most successful consumer and B2B media companies and brands in the world. She also has overseen the conversion of business models from print only to digital distribution, built digital products and brands, and created innovative digital and mobile product and product extensions in and across businesses. Most recently, Berner was President and CEO of the Reader’s Digest Association, Inc., and a member of the company’s board of directors from 2007 to 2011. In 1995, she joined Condé Nast’s Glamour Magazine as Vice President and Publisher then rose to Senior Vice President and Publisher. When Condé Nast bought Fairchild Publications in 1999, Berner was appointed President and CEO. Nayan Chanda - Editor, YaleGlobal Online and Director of Publications, Yale Center for the Study of Globalization For nearly thirty years before Nayan Chanda joined Yale University, he worked for Hong Kong-based magazine The Far Eastern Economic Review as editor, editor-at-large, and correspondent. From 1989-90, Chanda was the Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, and from 1990-1992 he was the editor of the Asian Wall Street Journal Weekly. Kevin Delaney - Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder, Quartz Kevin J. Delaney is editor in chief and co-founder of Quartz, a global business news site from Atlantic Media found online at qz.com. He was a reporter at The Wall Street Journal for a decade, with that time split between hardship postings in Paris and San Francisco. While covering Internet companies such as Google, Twitter, and Facebook for the Journal, he became convinced that newspapers could do much more to ensure that good journalism thrives in the digital age. Christopher Donnellan - Executive Director, Rights and Permissions, Condé Nast Christopher Donnellan is an attorney with 18 years experience in publishing. Duncan Edwards - President and CEO, Hearst Magazines International Duncan Edwards is the President and CEO of Hearst Magazines International, an EVP of Hearst Magazines, and Vice Chairman of the National Magazine Company (NatMag), Hearst’s publishing business in the U.K. He is responsible for all of Hearst’s magazine operations outside of the U.S., which include operations in nearly 60 countries. From 2005 to 2009, he was the Chief Executive of NatMag. Nigel Holmes - Principal, Explanation Graphics Born in England, Nigel Holmes studied illustration at the Royal College of Art in London and then freelanced for magazines and newspapers for 12 years before coming to America in 1978 to work for Time Magazine. He became graphics director at Time, where his pictorial explanations of complex subjects helped readers understand otherwise abstract numbers and difficult scientific concepts. In 1994, he founded his own business, Explanation Graphics, and has worked with a variety of clients including American Express, The Smithsonian Institution, and United Healthcare. He also does graphics and illustrations for publications such as The Atlantic, Harper’s, National Geographic and The New York Times. Shawn Waldron - Director of the Conde Nast Archive, Condé Nast Shawn Waldron’s career at Condé Nast began in 2003 when he was hired as the first professionally trained archivist in company history. In 2006 he became the chief archivist for the company. Waldron manages the daily operations of the archive’s 13,000 linear feet of material, including 8,000,000 photographs. The Archive team includes archivists, collections staff, a registrar, researchers, and two digital labs with scanning and retouching specialists. Waldron works closely with the editorial, advertising, and corporate groups at Conde Nast as well as outside curators, editors, authors, and photo researchers. Prior to Conde Nast, Waldron worked at Corbis, the stock photo agency, and Mystic Seaport, a maritime museum located in Mystic, Connecticut. She is the Executive Editor of ALL YOU, a Time Inc brand geared to the value-driven woman looking to enjoy life for less. Willdorf spearheads editorial development including special issues, digital content, and brand extensions for ALL YOU, which champions real women and peer-to-peer content sharing. Prior to joining Time Inc, Nina served as Travelocity’s national television contributor, advocating for consumer rights and deals on the Today Show and other programs. Nina has also served as the Editor-in-Chief of Budget Travel magazine, BudgetTravel.com, Girlfriend Getaways magazine, and GirlGetaways.com. Under her direction, Budget Travel was named Best Travel Magazine in the Lowell Thomas Awards in 2011. The publication, Web site, and e-newsletter also won numerous editorial and design awards from Media Industry Newsletter and Folio. Earlier in her career, Willdorf was an editor at Travel + Leisure, Child magazine, and Worth magazine, and she has contributed to Glamour, New York Magazine, Teen Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, and Real Simple. Amy Wrzesniewski - Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior, Yale School of Management Amy Wrzesniewski is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Yale School of Management. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude with highest honors and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan. Her current research, which has been published in a variety of academic journals, involves studying how employees shape their tasks, interactions, and relationships with others in the workplace to change both their work identity and the meaning of the job. She has engaged in research projects with IBM, Google, Sun Microsystems, the United States Military Academy at West Point, the University of Michigan Hospital System, Ness Technologies, and Burt’s Bees. She teaches Organizational Behavior courses in the MBA and Executive MBA programs at the Yale School of Management. Currently, Wrzesniewski is visiting for a year on the faculty of The Wharton School of Business at The University of Pennsylvania. |
