The Yale Publishing Course (YPC) is designed for mid- to senior-level book and magazine media professionals in all areas of publishing: management, editorial, business development, digital strategy, design and production, advertising, sales, and marketing. Participants come from companies of all sizes, including associations, non-profit and government agencies, museums, and publishing start-ups. A minimum of 5 years experience is required (exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Director). International applicants must have a good command of the English language as the entire course is taught in English. See a full list of the countries and companies that our alumni come from.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted online, through a secure system. To be considered, applicants must:

  • Submit a complete application. A non-refundable $50 application fee must be paid at the time you submit your application.
  • Provide supporting materials: (a) sample publication (print and/or digital), (b) list of 3 or more publishing related questions or challenges you hope the Course will address, and (c) short professional biography.

Notification of Acceptance

We will inform applicants of their acceptance within two weeks of receiving their completed application. Once each course reaches capacity, we will not accept additional participants, but will add names to a wait list.

Fees and Payments

A non-refundable $50 application fee must be paid at the time you submit your application. The course fee of $5,450 covers tuition, course materials, all lunches, refreshments, special receptions, three dinners, and shuttle transportation to and from classes/hotel during the course. Housing is not included in the course fee; however, a special hotel rate (which includes breakfast) at the Omni New Haven Hotel will be provided for participants. Payment is accepted by company check, bank wire transfer, or credit card (American Express, MasterCard, and Visa). Tuition must be paid by July 8, 2016.


A 10% discount off the course fee is provided when:

  • two or more people from the same company apply and attend
  • you are attending both the book and magazine media courses in the same year
  • you are recommended by a YPC faculty member
  • you work for a non-profit organization

A 20% discount is offered if you have previously attended YPC or are a Yale University alum.

Special rates are also offered through the Friends of YPC.

No discounts are available on the application fee. Discounts may not be combined.

Cancellation Policy

The $50 application fee is non-refundable. A full course fee refund will be issued if you withdraw from the Course before July 8, 2016. After that date, no refund will be issued. However, you may defer your participation until the following year (any course fee increase will apply) or send a qualified substitute in your place (separate application is required).
